Welcome!

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Re-opening of Church buildings in Arklow, Johnstown & Castletown

Under current Government guidelines Masses with members of the public present will commence on 29th June 2020, provided we have met the criteria set down by the Archbishop for the safety of all concerned. The following important points are highlighted. Please read these carefully and follow them.

Under current social distancing of 2 meters we are confined to the following MAXIMUM numbers allowed in the church building at any one time:

o ARKLOW CHURCH – 50 PEOPLE INSIDE (AND 75 OUTSIDE)

o JOHNSTOWN CHURCH – 50 PEOPLE INSIDE (AND 50 OUTSIDE)

o CASTLETOWN CHURCH – 30 PEOPLE INSIDE (AND 40 OUTSIDE)

Please come to Mass early to assist with seating arrangements. If you are already inside the church and are requested to vacate your place for an older person please do not be offended.

The Archbishop has removed the Sunday Mass obligation and encourages people if they can to attend the weekday Masses. We invite parishioners over 60 years of age or retired from work to attend weekday Masses to free spaces in the church at weekends for those who wish to get to Mass and who are in employment.

Entrance and Exit to the church will be by separate clearly marked doors. Parishioners will be expected to sanitise their hands as is current practice and to follow the instructions of the stewards at all times. Face coverings are optional.

Each seating space will be clearly marked. Families may sit together but there must be 2 meters between your family and the next parishioner. In coming to Holy Communion please respect the 2 m distance as a family unit or individual. A Eucharistic Minister will also distribute Communion to any parishioners gathered outside.

Collections: To avoid possible contamination no basket or bag collections will take place. Instead there will be collection boxes at the entrances and the exits to the church. Please place your donations directly in the box.

Mass leaflets are for single use only, please take it home with you.

Outdoor toilets will be open again during Mass. Please leave them fit for purpose for the next user by sanitising after use. Please dispose of the wipes in the bins provided.

To implement all of these measures safely we need a large number of extra volunteers to ensure the safe conduct of our liturgies and the thorough cleaning of our church after each Mass. We need definite numbers of new volunteers by 12 noon on Wednesday 24th June. Please contact any of the priests or parish personnel to volunteer.

If you are feeling unwell in any way there is no obligation on you to come to Mass. Please do not come to the church until you have recovered fully.

All of these safety measures come with a cost. We will have to find extra money to clean the church thoroughly every week, to provide safety signs and safety equipment such as sanitiser liquid, gloves, wipes and if necessary face masks. If you have not yet signed up for the family offering envelope collection please contact Fiadhnait in the Parish Office ([email protected])
